Jiangwan Sports Center was built in 1935 at the heart of Wujiaochang Commercial Cluster (Five Corners) in Yangpu District. Once the largest sports stadium in the East Asia, the Center, previously known as Jiangwan Stadium, was named a Shanghai Municipality Major Cultural and Historical Site and Shanghai Municipality Historical Building.
Jiangwan Sports Center is a one-stop destination spot for sports and recreational activities in Shanghai and has hosted large-scale events, such as the KIC Marathon Concert, the KIA X Games Asia 2007 and the Closing Ceremony of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
After extensive renovations, Jiangwan Sports Center now consists of a football stadium, a multi-purpose hall and an indoor swimming pool. The football stadium can hold over 40,000 people; the multi-purpose hall offers indoor basketball, volleyball, ping-pong and badminton; and a 50-meter swimming pool provides heated water all year round. Also available are outdoor cage football and tennis courts.
As all facilities opened to public in first half of 2008, Jiangwan Sports Center begins a new era of bringing sports and recreational activities into our daily lives.
